Please, without intention to dribble back, abeg who b DBA? functions? wat he's 2 know? Must he know Oracle? (Cant u be a DBA without being an Oracle DBA?)
Also i need clarifications on OCP, OCA, DBA, Developer and all dos abbr..titles?
Am getting confused...cos wat i read most times are interwoven

Thanks for your question. I think this will also clear others' confusion about the terms.

DBA means Database Administrator. Just to put it simple and short, database administrator is the person that designs, implements, deploys and manages a database. He maintains the database, ensuring that there is a most minimal downtime (a downtime is the period when the database is shutdown either by the DBA or through system crash.... in short, a time when the database is not available for users to get information from it) and a very high availability of data at any time. The DBA also does performance tuning of the database and ensures the security of the data.

A DBA could be an expert in the management of any of the Databases, whether Oracle, Foxpro, Sybase, MySQL, MS SQL Server, etc. A DBA is not necessarily a certified person. He could be a DBA by virtue of being an expert in database management.

Oracle Database has two certification levels: OCA and OCP. Taking the 1Z0-042 exams and passing it grants you the OCA certificate which is the Associate level, while taking the 1Z0-043 exams grants you the OCP certificate which is the Professional level. Either of them grants you the status of an Oracle DBA.

A Developer is a programmer. He writes applications (softwares) that make it easy for ordinary users to retrieve information from the database. He does not have business with managing the database.
