Had arguments with colleagues of mine concerning where to store images. A colleague inserted images for one of our apps right into the database column as a BLOB. Another criticized that it is less efficient and that it would better if the images were placed on the local file system say a folder within the web app.

What are your stance on this architecture?

I feel the question most people ask when viewing this is.
if the picture is stored in the database and the database records grows to large that database read operations will be slowed down. But i feel the people who designed the BLOB data type for DB must have come up with a way to optimize this performance. I feel there is a way to utilize this to a great advantage..My question is How? am still looking around..
