Creating a job yourself

Hi All,

Just joined the site yesterday. A friend of mine told me about it, but I just keep wondering about the possibilities of one creating a job for himself/herself going by way of his talent, skill or knowledege of this and that.

I quite appreciate the objective of careersng, but i am of the opinion that its high time we started earning from the application of our skills as against working for another man.

I kinda understand your view.
We are actually working towards a similar solution colony for young enterpreneurs, folks that are not ready to apply for ANY job whatsoever, but will build on their skills.
the site will equip, inform and empower creative minds in nigeria to exploit their GGTs ( God Given talents)
We are 75% up the ladder, and we will deliver very soon.
We will get there.

The first step is for you to identify your passion. Your passion will definitely determine a lot of things about you. I presently work with a Telecom company in Lagos and at the same time run my company by the side.

I will tell you that doing your OWN business is the sure route to wealth. Working for someone else will only help you to pay ur bills. If you are like me that have so many projects already lined up, that will not do. It takes a commitment to affect lives to start business. If your only reason of starting business is to make money, then I'd advise you to pick a job. For instance, I started http://www.nairahost.com some years back with 2 other friends 'cos of our desire to provide not only reliable but affordable web hosting services in Nigeria. Today, our client base reveals that we are on the right track.

I discovered my niche as far back as my year 2 in the university and I decided to pursue it. I know, for sure, that I'd definitely run successful businesses but I need to get the RELEVANT SKILLS. This explains why I took the decision to join the company I am currently working for.

Lets also not overlook the fact that everybody cant be business owners. Certain people by their natural orientation are born followers and would do better working for someone rather than creating their own businesses.

Hey man,
I am not saying everybody should start a business. There is no way some people can be successful in business no matter how hard they tried. Bunmi Oni didnt have to start his own business but today he is the MD of Cadbury. It is all about discovering your passion. What will you rather be doing if money is not an issue? Just ensure that YOU ARE WORKING FOR YOURSELF irrespective of whether you are in Business for yourself.

Even when we work, we should always work for leverage and not money.

Hi all
I guess u guys are all right. Its high time we all start looking inwards rather than waiting for already prepared food to start eating. We all need to wake up to that conciousness NOW!
But we need to understand as well that not everybody can actually be a self starter. Some need to start from the scratch, some join half way, and to some - they are ready to acquire the shares when it is properly done.

I think the most important thing for now is for us to keep moving despite all holds mounted around us.
