Do you know any? I have been looking for a quite a while now . . . have yet to find any that I can refer to as "serious".
I am not talking about someone who understands the syntax of a programming language, or who can "work out" what a line of code does (i.e. "read" code). I am asking about someone who is grounded - who can architect a solution from ground up (abi is it from top down sef), who understands and can masterly apply OO concepts and features, who can think in objects, knows which patterns works where. Someone who knows his way "under the hood" around the OS - even better than an MCSE or RHCE, who knows to "reuse" and to "make reuseable". Someone who understands what they mean when they say "graphics sell software". Someone who can read a book/manual/documentation or google first before moaning like a baby. Someone who "got the other skills" - networking, database admin + SQL + etc + etc . . . . Someone who is a certified GEEK, who does it for the love of it.
Is that too much to ask for? Am I just a dying breed?

Yes! that's the problem ..., the main problem is that there is no society/hub where you can find developers in Nigeria. a good news is that along with some other key guys in the echo system, i am currently pushing hard to start a Nigerian chapter of Mobile Monday. We hope it would help bridge this gap a little bit and we plan to make it spread beyond lagos. Lets see how it goess..
