OK...lets give it out free...there are too many ideas in this world than not to give some out for free!
I just thought of a business idea that can work for the young telecoms companies...the Mtech's of Nigeria, Gtel, Cellulant etc.
I think one of them should mine wikipedia offline and make it available to secondary schools and remote areas in Nigeria that has no internet reach.
All you need is an embedded device with a GPRS enabled SIM. Just a small embedded device like Gumstix can do it.
Gumstix has an LCD module a GPRStix and even a GPStix (u know what i mean...xpand your thought!)
So the idea is to use the telecoms companies GPRS network like an intranet...without using their internet bandwidth....with that you host the service at a very cheap rate with them.
So people can play with this device (it wld just look like an iPod). All it does is brows wikipidea (no body needs to tell you that it doesnt have to be wikipedia alone! ).
With this people can have valuable information right at their finger tip, even without internet. This would be a boost for any young Nigerian student...parents would even like to buy it for their children b4 they buy the real internet.. knowing that its raw knowledge and not knowledge mixed with other distracting internet junks!
Technical Summary: An embedded web-browser with nice LCD screen connects over GPRS to Celtel Network --> A powerful webserver hosting wikipedia offline and hosted in Celtels network responds to users requests.
Server Keeps mining the internet once in a month. If you like call it Asynchronous internet browsing...similar to what AJAX does in the programming world.
So what are you waiting for...? why would you wait for Mtech to implement it b4 u!? You better resign and get something stated on your own!
The sweet thing is that the device would be so cute that you would just give to boys selling stuffs in traffic-hold-ups and you are the bumb! You make small money on device and you make small money on subscription fee. Users dont have to ist in front of a computer to garner internet based knowledge at the end everybody is happy
Telecoms is what have in Nigeria...thats our present communication backbone...we can only innovate ways to maximize its potential... Lets do it!

Finally i found the closest product to this idea being released to market.
its a $99 device you can buy and it gives you the whole of wikipedia in ur pocket!

Nice idea.. but Nigerians never wld appreciate that.. sorry that am generalizing.. may be there will but it make take almost forever to get that thru to everyhand...

I feel we shoudl get mobile applications like that into doing our everyday life style.. like Flight Booking (i knu they do that over the internet).. but get everything done via ur fone without hazzle wld be kuul... also get to make a hotel reservation on hotels subscribed to the reservation network.. all kool stuff
