Hi all, Am into design and construction of embedded systems using microcontrollers such as PIC16F84, PIC16F628,etc and the ICs are no where to be found. Pls Where can i get the PIC ICs. Am in Abj. my emails are princejude4u@yahoo.com, okaka_us@yahoo.com I seriously need the microcontrollers.
You can find them in the IC's section in Alaba international Market.
There is also one market in PHC, cant remember the name now (It is an Igbo name) where u can get it. As for Abj, I dont know.
The last time I checked (in 2004), the 16F84 were available, but mostly you'll find the "C" chips (12C, etc) which are non flash, cos the Igbo guys use it for their car alarm systems design and dont need to erase/reprogram.
Have you got an EEPROM programmer?
BTW, its not a good idea posting your email address on a public forum.
You didnt answer my question about an EEPROM programmer, cos all this wahala about a chip doesnt make sense if you aint gat a programmer!
Contact address? Alaba International Mkt is @ Ojo in Lagos.
I think u can join a bus that goes thru Alaba Intl from mile 2 in lagos. Once you locate the Mkt, ask about the IC section ( used to be called "Japan" line, if my memory still serves me right). Its very popular, anyone in/around the market knows how to get to the IC section.
Once u get to the IC section, ask any seller, if he doesnt have the PIC's, he will tell u to wait and go and get it from someone who has, and sell it to you. (I had some business cards from my customers @ alaba, but I dont have them with me here). The store I buy from was called something like "A.C. Chuks. . . .", store number was B-4?? (B - four hundred and something); sorry I have forgotten exact name and store number.
The first time I went, as I got to Alaba Intl market, I just bought pure water from one young hawker and asked him about directions, he volunteered to take me there, and I showed my gratitude afterwards.
I am at home, and I have found the Business Card of my customer @ Alaba. Unfortunately I didnt come with it to the cafe, dont worry, I will post the complete details shortly.
About the MPLAB, I didnt mean the EEPROM programming software, you will need both software and hardware. You connect the PIC to the programming board (hardware) and connect the hardware to a computer so as to download the assembly codes (programs) from the PC (MPLAB IDE) onto the chip
As you might find, its pretty much easy to get software (Microchip provides MPLAB IDE free), the big probem is hardware.
I found ten PIC 16F's and two programming/prototyping boards in my junk room at home (I havent been home in many years now). I constructed the programing boards myself, modifying the PICSTART plus cct diagram I found online with and doubt I will ever use them again (I am no longer very geeky), If you want, I can post them (boards, chips, etc) to you (if it is possible theu nipost). Just PM me ASAP cos I will be disappearing back to Lagos soon, I wont be back @ home in a very long time!
Pls i seriously need the full contact address of your customer at Alaba. For the programmer, i connected the PIC to the serial port of my desktop thru a 5v regulator circuit with few resistors and capacitors. It worked with desktop.I tried it first with a laptop but i did not get the required 13v from the laptop then i used desktop. Pls i will be very happy if u can send the boards and chips to me because i lost my simply circuit due to demolition.
Does it mean that i cant get +13v or +12v from RS232 DB9 serial port of laptop? Pls if possibly, what brand of laptop, Becos am planning to buy one.
Now when u say u connected the PIC to thru a 5v reg, I am not sure what you mean. A hardware programmer is a little more advanced than just a 5v reg circuit. Were u able to program the PIC with your circuit? If yes, then I think you are cool.
About the desktops working, I advise you to stcik with a desktop, expecially if you have relays in you PIC circuit - I remember damaging 3 motherboards one day (actually one "night"), and considering that laptops are more expensive, I would rather have a "bare bone" desktop that specifically for PIC programming.
You don complicate the matter. This is not about networking, TCP/IP etc. We just need a port (serial or parralel) over which to transfer binary data from the PC to a device. The device doesnt not support TCP/IP, bluetooth or any other elegant protocol for that matter etc, all it needs is just sequential binary bits "submitted" to one of its terminals.
