hi all,
pls help am getting confused.i read computer science and i ave ccna presently working in a telecom consulting company, am about to switch job to either the oil and gas sector or the banking sector. but am having this confusion cos am about registering for my ccnp but a friend of mine is trying to convince me to go into oracle dat u get jobs easily, i mean easily with oracle certication in the above mentioned sectorS. cos the need for it has tremendously increased for now.pls advise.no sentiments pls. the TRUTH from those with the experience

i beg navigate the ori-meta, using your searching skills.i can see you are into it/telecoms.i am too, but am not comfortable with my present job, and ave nt been too lucky with gsm companies, ave turned down several offers from the bank, but a gud one appears to be online, same for the oil and gas sector.
which aids a job offer more, ccnp or oracle?

i work with a telecoms consulting company, they are into vsat, radios, fiberoptic cabling.etc but my dept is networking.i also do maintenance and troubleshooting of cisco routers and switches.i also have some hands on experince in terminating cat 5 and fiber

...hmmm, its obvious that oracle is far from ur present job description anyway.....but which type of position do u want to handle in Bank and Oild&Gas?
For me, as far as i know the Nigerian industry, neither banking nor Oil and Gass needs a CCNP cert knowledge, xcept u wana do CCNP only to enhance ur chances of getting d job in terms of perception and competition, and not for knowledge/career growth.
If u want to use CCNP, its better u staty where u are, or goto work in VPN/ISP companies.
But if u are bent on leaving ur present job for Oil or Banking job, then dont do any of d certifications. I feel what u have now is enough to get u either of the two jobs. I dont think a CCNP or an Oracle cert wld enhance ur chances of getting those jobs.
So, I advice u to wait till u get into the new job, then the certification u need to do would speak for itself by then.

tnks God bless you.i actually feel you,i ll make up my mind in a short while.cos i ave till d end of today to pay for the ccnp composite lectures, i initially intend to write the exams b4 ending of dec, no 1 point i dnt need it except to enhance my entry into d oil sector or bank. but are you saying its not useful dere?
i pray earnestly for Gods direction, cos dat money is too much to throw out like dat.

No knowledge is lost my brother. If u ve what it takes to do d cert now, its better u do it, sometimes u do things without realy having concrete reasons behind why u did it, but u would discover it would pay u in the future. So just 4low ur intuition man.
And by the way, CCNP is surpose to be 4 exams now
Are u doing d last exam, or d first exam?

am about starting with the composite(doin swithching and routing 2geder).hope u know wat i mean?dats y am tinking dat is it really worth it.tinking of doin oracle instead.by the way, how many exams is in oracle?

Oracle 10g can be done in one exam. U can goto oracle forum to confirm.
