so what about perl .. i knu perl is a very linux based programing language .. though we have it on windows too but the linux guys use it more.. now in the nigerian context i dont see u use perl for any task onless u as the developer use it to accomplish serveral task which the company may not reward you for.. so what the deal.. and well ur tutorial is welcomed.. too

Later when i was in Celtel, Perl and RRDTools became the hero, when i used it to program a real-time status graph of the performance of some of Celtel services. Everyone loved it, because its just a lookup on a browser, and you get the real-time status of our services. Most importantly all the people calling customer care then. For your info, this was also a self-imposed project for me, no one sent me. i did it one 4days census break like that
So you gast o know that you are learning what you need to equip yourself not the company. The compant is actally your testing tool and your debugging center. They would love you to do things like that for them for free if you dont complain of ask for money. When you do this you develop your skill in what you want and add value to your CV.
After then, it was Perl to a 48hrs rescue for me again in a robotics course project it literarlily got me the 'A'. because that robot wasnt going to move and respond the real-time events if not for Perl that i used to wire everything together! it was tension socked and that was the day i first thanked God i ever learnt Perl!
Perl has now become my main stream telecoms programming tool. i am even using it for some consultancy projects at the moment.
So my brother you never know ooo! just pick whatever is most relevant to your present skill set and learn it. create a skill map for yourself with our without any company.
Wish you the best! ...and more coming soon .. i believe my Nigerian experinces is more value adding than giving you Perl 101. because Perl is over documented everywhere on the internet. Anyone who has problem learning some aspects can ask questions and we can keep learning together.
Regards to all

Ok talking about ur Unical SocketWorks project. There is a high probability that i have seen u. Well the socketworks timer was cool considering the fact that as at then that was the first linux distro i ever saw.. and was intrigued..
I have always known perl to be a must know if u are going to do any serious work. I get ur point on learning this tools as not just to equipe ur company but really u are equiping urself as the skill is basically to give u a means to get ur job done faster.. the company dont have to know what u use.. just deliver the result..
@X2X U getting me wrong. I see programming more than just writing softwares that people will use directly and praise u.. but more as getting to automate some of ur everyday task. i am guessing u share that view..
So by serious work .. i actually mean utilizing to a MAXIMUM the opportunities or capabilities
