I didnt complete my computer appreciation course I was doing before I gained admission. But I kind of fancied the intro to software.

Since I am here, I want to ask how can I learn how to program? Is it difficult? What do I need?

I think you are in the right place, learning programming is very easy irrespective of your course, like me i did engineering but i am now in the software development field.
The most important thing you need is the zeal to learn and the right tools such as computer and the necessary software to practice and fairly internet access! as fowe says.
You don't have to be online always you need internet to get materials and probably to share your programming error with experience programmer.
Also software development involves the programming interface and the database.And there are many programing language and database in which you can choose.The problem of most newbie is that they are not sure of the one to start with, i will post an article to that effect.
As for the NIIT and the likes "I think" they are just exploiting people in Nigeria because their cost is too expensive and in most cases they are not the one to give certification. You still have to pay and write the appropriate exam for certification.To me i think learning the program yourself goes a long way in your development and also saves money.
