hey guys i am having problems with this servlet code.I got this error nullpointerexception.now i knu wht that means but y it does that is what surpreisses me.now i have a login servlet which redirects the user to a page based on the user type.now if the registration form is submitted to the EMRServlet(in the source code) it throws the pointer exception.but before getting the registration form,this same servlet redirects a receptionist user by analyzing the button value of any form/request sent to it.but when submitting the registration form it now throws the excepion.now when i read or check my http monitor it now says this request is not parameterized.and i dont know why so.i use a post method in the form.pls help me

Ok so struts is the deal ...
I ve been waiting to hear the name of just one frameworks since you ve been discussing. i decided i would bounce on it..because the number of options sometimes even puts you off..
I actually still love doing my C++ style kind of Java programming.
I like coding everything myself from d scratch. E.g i prefer doing my JDBC directly rather than using Hibernate. Because i feel hibernate is an extra processing layer, which could affect performance especially under high traffic load. So i think the user is very important in choosing application design. If your user base is like 20,000(e.g univ campus portal etc), its diff from when you ve like 9millon users (e.g a telecoms application). I ve built more applications in the latter category. But i think i ve done enough of that. Its time to master at least one frameworks in Java!

ok guys this is a healthy topic.in the course of this i have learnt or realised something.one shouldn't "view a project with a magnifying glass"(someone said that on careersng cant get his name now sole????).now i have rewritten most of this code again(forgive me x2x but i cant wait for ur framework lecture now) all am saying though this is a patch work this is just a demo.i will rebuild the whole project again and by then use a proper framework(heard that proper framework that gits the bill )but for now i need something working to present.Now i changed most of my form or removed most of my form processing to various jsp pages.and let my servlet do the redirecting.i think this is a model 1/2 design approach cant remember which "no time yet).so after my initial success i came to realize that look re-inventing the wheel is waste of time.if there is technology out there that is said or suppose to make ur task easier try it out.i mean i was killing myself with overloading my servlet with processing work when jsp could simpligy the tast.(my first code in jsp worked.i couldn't believe it).so folks fowe/x2x thank u guys for showing me this light.

fowe step-in and trace are the same thing.u made it sound too special and different.thanks for reminding me of that feature anyway.haven't been using my ide for a while u knu.u get a little rusty.

now got to go do some more coding will brief u soon.

Talking more about struts.
I am looking for a shortcut to cracking it.
The issue is that i am already using struts and its working but, as far as i am concerned i still have a technician knowledge. I need very sound overview of what is all about, and i don't have time to read a lot of words now.
Could someone link me to a page that has a schematic overview of what struts does and its framework
