please i need ebooks on C++ and Java.I'm a bgginer and i want to be a programmer.Please can anyone tell me any centre in lagos dat handles training courses for C++ and Java.Thanks all

Hey ubukme, it depends on the levels you want to take your programming skills to. If you gat good money, you can consider NIIT, but if u dont ve much money like me and you wana become a real coding machine/guru. Then i would advise you go alltheway with self learning. Thats makes you know howto go get it yourself.
I can send you a good C++ startup book, and such books would also be available for download on this site very soon. But if you realy realy a beginner to the whole programming wolrd, then i would advice you consider buying the book Schums series Programming in C++. Its a good one to start...

U dont need to go to NIIT to get off.

I learnt Java, C, C++,PHP and VB on my own by reading Books and I have 4 certifications from Sun Microsystems on Java programming alone. I suggest U settle down and study text books which will give u a wholistic picture and complete workout on all the language sections. If you have any problems with any aspect, you can ask on this or other forums.

I recommend The following

Java
----------------------------
Mastering Java 2 SE by John Zukowski (Sybex) (simply 5 star)
Begining Java 2 by Ivor Horton (Wrox)


C++ (these books are a bit dated now)

C++ in 21 days. or C++ By Example will be good for a start.

The problem is that with Java, everything looks odd (at first), U must understand almost all aspects of the language before u become productive. But once u become productive, everything looks easy and u can start to do very HI TECH stuff.

With C++, you can start from day one to write small programs using knowledge from only one aspect (without knowing most of the other aspects) but moving from this small programs to really tight stuff is HARD, impossible for most people, cos books that will guide you for these are scarce (maybe they are classified). So make your pick. If you need Java/C++/PHP/XML/etc books, I will be happy to send a few to you by email. Will also be happy to help time permitting, if you enconter any problems with Java, VB, or PHP (I do less of C++ nowadays).

Tanx for the post man! This is what i tell people everyday, dat they should goto NIIT only if they are very buoyant. Infact if ur plans is to become a programmer, den going to NIIT might not be d best start, because it might weeken your self learning capability, which is compulsory to be a programmer!
