would you be gracious enough to respond to gfk's last comment on the effect of slave trade on our advancement as a nation?

i quite agree with gfk to the extent (holding constant the causative factors of poor leadership )that the slave trade was a gap in our race to civilization(civilization in the white man's terms). would you acquiesce that we had made considerable advancements with respect to local technology, civil laws, kingdom administration et al pre-colonial era?
