No. They had more threatening problems than africans.
"not true! many people had the same "winter" probs and nothing happened. (in essence (unspoken) a. that is not our problem, nor is it where our solution lies). "
Okay. You opine the winter explanation is not valid (or not completely valid). Alright by me.
no, it has 2 b motivated.. blah.. blah.. **Goes off topic**... -
No. I said "Change can be both internal and motivated, but the most radical changes are motivated."
"I never diagreed. . . . . ". With what?
"nigerians are not easily motivated " But can you explain why this is so?
Religion that you think brings nothing was the motivation for the civilizations you mentioned including USA UK etc. Read your history well.
Didnt we have our own "home grown" religion in Africa? Maybe I should borrow your history books.

DUDE, my argument wasnotfor internal or external motivation for change! How many times will I say that we just need re-orientation at the individual (grassroot) level? i.e. About Brains not feelings!
What other greater motivation does one need except this kind. You are motivating by your posts. So, to motivate others let's get them access to this type of intellectual discuss.
Mr Yaradua, our present President is showing some levels of motivation for accountability.
Well, All I can say to this is that it's a shame and our leaders are to be blamed. All the same, lets do what we can to improve ourselves and then the system would not be able to say no to us. Then we can make adequate changes to what we have on ground at the moment. All the best.
Let's pray for good leadership. Let's prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead as future leaders. Leadership is the leading problem in Nigeria. With that solved there will be way out of all the multifaceted issues!
For the umpteenth time, no Nigerian university was ranked among the best 200 universities in the 2007 world universities. But the University of Cape Town, South Africa provided a ray of hope for the African continent as it becomes the first institution ever from the continent to be ranked as the 200th best university in the world.
Now in its fourth year, the research is conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds and the rankings are compiled by Times Higher Education Supplement. The report was published late last year.
It revealed some dramatic changes compared with 2006. The THES-QS World University Rankings 2007, the report stated, reflected the internationalisation of higher education around the world, with 27 universities from 14 different countries entering the top 200 for the first time. One of them is the South African university, which shared the 200th position with the RMIT University of Australia.
According to the report, universities from the United Kingdom and the United States of America still dominated the top 10 with Harvard University, Cambridge, Oxford and Yale retaining the top four positions for the second year running.
According to the report, the University College London and Chicago also made the top 10 for the first time.
In the top 50 bracket, the report said the addition of the Netherlands sees 12 countries feature in the top 50 compared to 11 in 2006 (see table below). New entrants include Brown University, Bristol; Chinese University of Hong Kong, Osaka; Boston, Amsterdam.
The top 100 sees the number of Asian universities increase from 12 to 13 in 2006 but the number of European Universities dropped from 41 to 35 in 2006. North American universities, however, increased to 43 from 37 in 2006.
The report added that the increasing internationalisation of universities through strategic global partnerships; joint teaching and research initiatives; and increased international student recruitment activities were major factors that enhanced the rankings of the institutions.
Reacting to the report, the immediate-past Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola, said that if Nigerian universities must catch up with their counterparts in other climes, they should do have a high proportion of top-rate researchers and teachers, many of whom have won global academic awards such as the Nobel and Pulitzer prizes; a high proportion of international staff not just local indigenous staff; well-built structures for academic, administrative, residential, leisure and sporting activities; staff and students of different nationalities. Other features they must have, he said, include uninterrupted supply of water and electricity; well-mowed lawns; friendly environment for staff; students and visitors, (including the physically challenged); no defacing of walls with posters; and clean, well-maintained toilets.
He added that laboratories, workshops and studios blistering with technology and state-of-the-art equipment; campus-wide Internet connection; delivery of lectures assisted with multimedia technology; weekly assignment for students, marked and academic progress tracked by parents and sponsors should be provided.
Okebukola also noted that calendar for the next five years approved by senate of each institution and implemented without variation should be ensured while no room should be given to cult‘s activities and examination malprac.
I have been enjoying the forum, rather than sharing my view on thIS issue. i have 2 points to contribute
1. All our leaders don't value education, because they all have toronto certificate, {all past presidents don't have sound academic profile, you can name them your self . . . } we have had different expired millitary personnel in the presidency, who believe the only thing that matter is Money from Crude OIL.
Until the Presidency is strictly and exquisitively reserved for the Intellectuals {not touts , }Nigeria Educational system might not thrive.
2. The system itself. why I started with the Leader was that "every good thing start with the Head." Now the GOVERNMENT PARASTATALS NEEDS A REVOLUTION. For ages "Government thing" has never work out in nigeria. NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY is a good case study.
everybody have desires for Private universities, even our Leaders. so why me o, why me, tell me why me
I was just asking. But your warning answers the question that we have a good and promising president at the helm. I'm sure if I had wrote this during Agbe loba's (baba's) tenure nobody would have raised an eyebrow.
Is x-2-x afraid of the powers that be? The Rule of Law will take effect in any Defamation of Character suit.
Careersng Admin, Fowe at al you are overflogging the issue of respect or disrepect. Read well, it was a sarcastic remark/comment/question. And if we must be sincere and not be too "Nigerian politically diplomatic" the truth must be told as it is. If the answer to the contentious sarcastic question is in the affirmative in the mind of the reader so be it.
Education should not be all about bagging degree certificates. Almost of our so called leaders have certifiactes including those from Toronto and cannot show in their performance. It's high time we stopped emphasising worthless certificates and concentrate on performance.
I hope this would not be seen as another instance of abusive ad hominem - a Logical Fallacy I detest!
