Sunday morning, after extended hours of being sleep deprived, I dropped my laptop.
It didnt smash on the floor cos I supported it with my feet just before it hit the floor (i tried to do what Kanu did in that Peak milk advert: I am sure my mother would have said "X-2-X, I know say one day you go make me proud"). Summary: My leg was severly bruised yet my laptop edge suffered a crack.
Now I am shopping for a new one. HP or DELL are my first choices. If anyone knows a scintillating laptop that "deserves" a happy home, kindly PM me links so I can check it out.
P.S, Minimum R.A.M 2GB. Prefer Windows XP. I am not looking for a media player, I am looking for a work-horse.
Do you know my take on laptops and generally electronics, Moorse Law! Very soon the prices of good and classy laptops drop. It happens every 18months period for the past years. So why should I spend my life saving on what will become bottom spec in 18 months? Mind you we the researchers have not yet given up on giving you better service or components at top prices that pay for the cost of research! Personnally, I lookup low cap laptop that has basic features and expandability.
I looked up the X60 tablet advert. Hope its not more expensive than the HP that was sold for 807USD of recent. Guess it was 997 when I last checked the price.

well i have been considering a laptop too. but i seem fixed on hp / dell.. this acer i dont really know mucjh about them. well i also need a work horse. willbe doing lots of java work and db stuff so i need something can can handle the strain
u may want to reconsider before picking a wide screen cos after sometimes, it becomes too big esp wen u start thinking of it as a laptop, n dat means a portable computer and not really a television.

Yes i use one note, and i am also a paintbrush expert! It also has handwriting recognition, in which u can just write with free hand, and it would type it for you automatically. Its like an intelligent software that you train and learns your handwriting.

@ Fowe - well this is a lil bit off topic but I dont want to start a new thread since it will almost be a "1 reply" thread.
What linux distro are you running on your laptop? And what is your multi-OS arrangement: Dual boot with GRUB (MS Windows and Linux) or OS emulation (VMware et al?).
I need to test some apps I developed on Linux/Solaris and so need multiple OS's on my machine.
Been a while since I used Linux and I am looking to trial the apps on Fedora 9 (Fedora 9 will be be released on May 13th), the old Redhat9 (still have the iso images on my HDD) and Solaris 10.
