Leraning linux is the best when u have it installed on your PC. I would advice you start with Redhat or Suse.
You can also start by reading this online book.
http://www.unix.org.ua/orelly/linux/lnut/index.htm
To start with, get a PC and have Linux installed on it..
Dont tell me you dont know what i mean by I NSTALL....u should be quite familiar with some windows jargons by now.
I do redhat and im proud of my fedora!!
Gb!
hello Gbolahan and Fowe
I am also in a similar situation as Uche. i have gone thru ur responses to him, but would prefer u be a bit more detail, as in, tell us avialable linux versions and give recommendations, also links where one can download books (probably in pdf) which would be very beneficial to a linux newbie. thanks.

I advice you open this question under Postfirst degree/certifications, so that all certification xperts can see it and give u tips.
I advice u find out about Oracle certifications. That should certisfy your interest.
Hope that helpssss

Yeah i think Fowe is right there is a lot of libraries and packages for ubuntu linux becos it is well supported. Just try googling when you need one or ask guys from here if they may have it.

Mr X-2-X, you keep on reminding us that Fedora does not have support for MP3 but there are many other alternatives a lot of softwares you can get to do that and most of them are easy to install.
Infact Fedora core 4 was shipped with real player which can play MP3 and there is also java based MP3 players like jajuk thats the one i am using , it is an advanced jukebox which is platform independent.
Sir, if you left Linux becos of MP3 then i don't think its worth it.
So don't criticize our Fedora core again.

Fedora straight out of the box doesnt not have the MP3 support. It may have all the players but they wont work, except u install thirdparty MP3 support.
If you play MP3 on your Fedora box, you got the libraries elsewhere (certainly not from redHat)
