My greatest admiration is for architects. Technology architects. These are people who envision an idea long before it makes sense - to the rest of us at least. When their idea is eventually realised, we all wonder why no one else ever thought about it. We wonder how we managed to live without it. I am talking simply ideas like the world wide web, email, java technology, and so on.

It is no secret that I was a big fan of Sun Microsystems. Once upon a time, Sun Microsystems had about the largest group of genuine technology architects in its employment. Sun used to say "The network is the computer". Since the death of Sun, I have fallen more and more in love with Google. Google's new punch-line "Nothing but the web", to my mind reinforces the view that the network is indeed the computer.

Mind, I think the cloud computing idea is a brilliant one and I am delighted that Google and partners are making progress. Maybe I would get a Chromebook. Would you?
