Good day house!
Am a newly registered member.
Well, am a prospective Corp member[NYSC] & a Medical Doctor.
I graduated from Unilorin Medical School 2005[courtesy ASUU & Unilorin "44"]. Was meant 2 graduate Dec 2003[2 solid yrs added].
That not withstanding, I didnt get 2 secure a placement for my internship in South-West despite attending many tests & interviews. Infact I was close 2 securing a space @ General Hospital, Marina-Lagos but on d day I was 2 go collect my letter of employment, som1 somewhere then asked me what I had been coming 2 do al;l these while. I was mad after going 2 dat same office almost everyday 4 three(3) weeks. I was then asked 2 re-write another application 2 start all over again. What pained me most is that I actually did well both in d test & interview but they were not just ready to give me any appointment. All this happened Jan 2006.

Considering the fact dat many of my colleagues were 4month into their internship. It was obvious I would not make the Batch "B" of NYSC for 2006. The option to make the next batch which wld come on Feb/March 2007[Batch A] was 2 secure a placement on or b4 March 2006.
Alas, I had an opportunity 2 go to the Niger Delta, Bayelsa State to be precise. Everybody @ home were like its too far besides that was abt d tim of Alameiseigha saga. While, I told my pple that afterall, pple re leaving there & I wld surely survive it. [4 me am NOt afraid of challenges, am a guy I shd be able 2 meander my way thru anywia no matter what]. As a man now struggle continues.

One of d reasons I had 2 go 2 Bayelsa[Federal Medical centre, Yenagoa] was 2 make dis last Batch[March 2007] of NYSC. Many peopele believe its when U go for NYSC that U go that far but in my case I had a target.
August 2006 came by & many of my colleagues were posted 2 different parts of d country. Amidst this I was counting my own days too as I was in my 3rd posting[out of compulsory 4].

Then came Jan 19, 2007[my last day as an intern], I got all necessary documents signed & subsequently came 2 Lagos 2 do my full registration @ Medical & Dental Council Of Nigeria[MDCN]. Jst after 3rd day of getting 2 Lagos I went 2 my alma mata 2 go folow up my NYSC stuff ONLY 4 me 2 be told that I didnt write a re-mobilization letter as I was posted last year[Aug 2006] n that they didnt send my name 2 NYSC office in Abuja. Imagine, I was jst gettin 2 knw dat I was mobilized way back then. What all that meant was that I cant get 2 make the Batch A[Match 2007] but wait till Aug/Sept 2007. I didnt make that batch cuz f som1's stupid/administrative mistake. I tried 2 make dem C reason with me that somtin can still be done. There are 2 solid months btw Jan & March. One can even get 2 travel 2 Abuja more than ten times. I was even ready to foot d bill but d guy was NOT just ready 2 assist, I jst resigned 2 faith one time.

I was mad & almost turned into a depression. I the started thinking of all I had to thru in Yenagoa[I was far away frm my pple, Its most expensive state in Nigeria where everybody is believed to work in Oil company, I was NOT given an accomodation(wic is a prerequisite 2 doin internship) n had 2 stay in doctors common room 4 awhile]. On securing one, d hospital still didnt pay. I jst kept takin everytin 2 masef all in d name of doing wat I had 2 do, leave & go straight 2 camp for NYSC. If I had stayed back in South-West & made up my mind of not going for NYSC till Aug/Sept 2007, I think I would ve been happier. As my mind wld ve been prepared for Aug/Sept 2007.
Imagine, I couldnt get 2 save enough during my internship year bcos of d high cost of leavin in Yenagoa. If I was offered =N=20,000 lesser of what I collected as salary in Yenagoa I wld jst jump @ it like a dog wld jump for meat/bone, as i wld ve saved more pay.
The people were NOT welcoming, they re volatile, d environment is hostile & ....................!
Thank God I survived it sha! thats where militants would come take one of then in hospital forcefully without paying. Cultism is NOT limited 2 higher instituition [what I knew in South west] but cuts across streets. So it makes it difficult to curb. A mechanic by roadside cld be a cultist so also can be som1 hawking pepper!

Meanwhile, I visited d NYSC camp in Bayelsa State where 4 of my colleagues were posted. They were all suprised that I didnt make camp & I gave them d reason I didnt make camp. Could U believe that none of them wrote any letter of remobilization. It was ONLY d NYSC form which was filled by everybody that made them 2 be posted. I later went back 2 Unilorin Student Affairs write d necessary application & again filled d form so as 2 leave No stone unturned.

Presently, I heard that there would now be 3batches with another batch coming up June/July 2007[I think I would call speculation]. I want 2 know if its true. That would be the best thing to happen to me in recent times. Of course, I DONT know what d experience is like but I heard different gist from my friends. Some were even like, its totally rubbish. [1 of them even told me "Arigo", dats wat I was cald in medskol, apply for an exemption cuz its waste of time n besides U wld be exactly d exemption age by Oct. 2007].

So, am kinda @ a crossroad, as I REALY want 2 be dia not minding the age.
But, if the June/July batch is not forthcoming, I implore U 2 PLS, give me any info if U knw of an hospital where I can get 2 do some work till Sept. so that I wont get rusty.
I have been tryin 2 get a place 2 work with a private hospital since I came back from Yenagoa finally in March. Well, I think the election period too has its toll on my gettin a placement. I cant work with any govt establishment as my NYSC discharge cert wld be asked for.
Ur varoius suggestion are welcomed.
I wld very much appreciate it if any1 can provide me wit info on securin a placement where I can manage till June Batch or Sept batch.

I will reply in detail soon on my experience with the moribund scheme which some mischievious( or realistic?) peole have termed "Now Your Suffering Continues" - NYSC.

House, the painful thing about this whole issue is that those outside the nedical field are made 2 biliv that once U become a doctor-U ve arrived! Its far from it.
During my intership, I learned alot concerning doctor's pay, its alarming if U can ONLY understand.
I'll NOT in anyway regret ever been in the profession but I ve heard pple lament that so dis is ao medicine & being a doc is?
d bad thing about it now is that I CANT getn 2 work in any govt estab unless I get my NYSC dicharge cert. Even d private hosp too re NOT forthcomin. u find out that U re jst makin cool money 4 d owner of d hosp.
Last wknd som1 asked me 2 cover an hosp 4 him as he wld also be on call in one of d General hosp in Lagos state. He offered me =N=2,000 for 12hrs[9am-9pm]. d person is NOT jst payin below nbut that one nah DIE. Its supposed 2 be =N=3,000 n end d 3K sef nah take no vex. I refused it o, despite d fact dat I dont ve anywia going afterall nah bye-election day wic is 4 sleepin & remainin indoor.
As 4 d NYSC, pple don make am tire me sef, dis 1 go say nah good experience, dat 1 go say nah jst waste of tym. Like me don talk b4 I wan go do d tin.
As d ONLY other opttion of NOT doin aside frm workin wiv private clinics/hosp[wia d pay is less] is to travel outside d country wia U r NOT recognised & 4 U 2 practise U ve 2 spend abt 2yrs still tryin 2 pass dia exams dia wic can giv U 2 opportunities. Either to start working dia or further ur medical education & subsequently work there!
If una get any wotk 4 me in any Private hosp, abeg make I knw ooooooo.
