Ok.. I know of networking through professional associations and conventions as the most effective means of networking. But this isn't very useful (in Nigeria) since people feel too proud (a Nigerian xtic) and they run away from the less opportuned.
I do feel a way to go around this is to voluteer in organizing a convention/meeting. I would be happy if there're more ideas with respect to this: Anyone?

Now, Iam also thinking of the following: Most clubs in Lagos have a lot of big men as members. And while my initial idea (i.e. when I was a boy) was that those men just go there to drink, they actually do negotiate millions just over lunch. SO my question is this: Are clubs (e.g. Ikoyi club, Lagos country club e.t.c. i.e NOT those yeye dance clubs etc) a viable place to Newtork for entry-level people? How does one go about it without feeling out of place?

I was at Abeokuta Gulf club some sundays back.. I was shocked to meet my governor in shorts, cracking jokes with some top guys too.
Just like u said, its very very possible that u network through such places, but are you ready to pay the price?
Abeokuta Gulf club is 50k per year, ( form 2,500)
if u get dat kain money as a starter, i will suggest u start a fish pond or something.
As you grow , and depending on your preferences, you can join early.
Most contracts are signed and sealed out of office.
all u see in the telly is just acting.
the real deals are sealed over a cup of coffee or a bottle of .... anywhere in the world.
For now, cut your coat according to your materials.

I am just trying to say there is a solution to every problem. Though it isnt easy to meet big men, xpecialy wehn u need them to risk their capital and bye into ur bizz idea.
But really, cant somone setup an organization dat wld bridge the gap?
This company can create people network linking the bellow average with great ideas with the very rich.
They can do this by personally scoring ur ideas with points, if u ve got the idea with high points, then they wld set u up for a meeting with big men. When u too don get leg, U can bring in pple. The higer ur reputation(idea/points) the higher the number of pple u can invite too.
Dats a way it can goes...........

Hmm Fowe, you're very correct. Ideas is something rich men (& women) really need from the energetic younger ones. And the younger ones will always need capital.. It's something I'll definitely look into..

Yeah, I buy you guy's ideas. Please lets make it happen. I have some great ideas that can put me off the alljobber circle to an employer, but I always end up with If only .... I also need someone to buy into my idea, but when I approach those 'big wigs' they look at me as if I came to ask for money to buy dress, do my hair, seeking to be noticed, or looking for a big man to marry; and when they discover am serious with my plans, they wave it aside and offer something not on the menu.... like "lets meet somewhere more cosy to discuss this".

This is how great ideas are born....please put things in order, and lets take off... I am right behind you guys.

What is happening to the networking
Though i quite agree that if the rich people see what you have they really buy into your idea BUT the gap is still there how can we bridge the gap
