As regards GRE, what score is good enough for grad school funding. i know of pple that made less marks in GRE, and they have funding, and there are some with high grades, without an admission offer.

u don't even need a solid score as such as it really depends on the school and the course itself. For e.g. everybody wan do physics for MIT so u can guess abi?
but my friend is starting his Masters in d best school for petroleum studies and he's that dept. wetin him get 400 verbal and math 680

Waooo! Thats a very lucky shap.
Can you tell me the school and the department?
Also i tink I agree with you that its not about the high GRE score, its about choosing the right school and department that matches your credentials.
I belive this website would help everyone in that regards:

Bns,
the guy is as lucky as .....
TAMU no be small school o.
i made 780 in my quants... but i got bounced by cornell and Purdue when i applied.
i also know of 1 UI graduate that made 2-2 in pet engr. and made 740 in quants, but made full scholarship at Louisiana state university. I wish i studied PET!!!
Well, a distant friend dey go harvard this fall oo (alljobs member for that matter). He studied medicine @ UI. Served @ Ibadan..u know him already?

Ok honestly, the guy isn't lucky but he knew what was important and had a plan (ofcourse, his chances would have been slimer for harvard them). I myself was bounced from Harvard etc but I know I could have got in if I had followed my own advice. I have another example in Colorado School of mines etc
The main issue about research oriented schools is the Advisor (I shd have said this earlier). Now, no matter what school it is there are obviously people running it-people with feelings. So as long as the advisor takes u (or likes you) nothing else can hold u. Now, I agree that liking a foreigner may be very difficult and the guy has to clear his/her mind on whom (s)he's giving admission to by checking GRE scores amongst other things. but this is still not impossible. But to cut long story short, I'll give some pointers:
1. Ivy league schools (harvard, princeton, u penn, columbia etc) plus MIT, caltech, rice ALL require very HIGH marks in GRE, and it's just one of the unspoken requirements (i.e. it won't necessarily boost u above your peers).
2. The most important factor (even more important than GRE in ivy league schools) is getting a professor to be on ur side
3. GRE can be done as many times as you like. Although all scores are sent to the school, the highest scores are the ones the schools consider(i.e. not necessary highest combined e.g just like merging SSCE results like Math [Jan] plus Verbal [December] plus Anal [Aug]) . Don't believe? check the FAQ of many schs urself.
4. Doing Gre is and getting 400 in verbal (all 9jas will probably get above 600 in math since GRE math is easier than SAT math) is better and far more advantageous than not doing. WHY? some schools just have it as a necessary requirement, even if it doesn't form the core of your admission process.
5. EVERYTHING helps: hobbies, work experience, skills etc (they must be on you application)
6. Understand the admission process as a commercial event. E.g. why would someone be admitted in May and the same person would not be admitted in Sept? i.e. demand issues & recruitment cycles, supply etc
I would have said far more but I do get some of my income from assisting folks. So, I guess anyone can search online based on all d above
Lastly, I don't know the person in UI. I only know my referer as well as the many OAU names I see on the post.

Yea i gbadun all ur postssss.
I lately discovered that choosing the right school in the US is as challenging as the GRE&TOEFL exams itself.
You have to take your time to choose the right schools and depts.
If u interested in reserach, its better u start an interactive session with a Prof in ur dept of interest, so that u can know dat u ve got a chance.
If u d 1st class material with a good GRE score, u may not need this, just apply to an average school, and i think u wld get funding!
If u cant stress urself to do GRE & TOEFL, then u can consider the sweden free tution option. Despite that, make sure u got with enough cash for feeding ooo. Cus the community no understand ur language ooo, its only the university that speaks English. Thats what i heard.
All the best

Schooling is tuition free in a few other countries in Europe, but then...there's always a catch. Many of those fees seem to be redirected into the amount of money which you are meant to prove you have before you are given full admission. By the time you are told you must prove you can provide 600 euros a month..I wonder what you would think then. The moral? There is nothing like a free lunch

By the way, over here in Stuttgart, you must have paid at least 7200 euros into an account in Germany before you are even given a visa from your home country. Then, one is required to pay a registration fee of 108 euros. Next year, that will increase to 500 euros. After that, the monthly rent is deducted and despite what you think, student jobs for non-EU students are very hard to come by. Success stories you hear: a guy got here, and found a wonderful student job, are an exception...not the norm.
At least, over in this school of mine, I was not told to produce GRE, ABC, STD, TOEFL and all that other balderdash. I have always found that stuff insulting. After all, I was instructed in English, (no be so?) and can speak the lingo as well as, or even better, than the Americans can.
well said.wild jeff said it all.THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A FREE LUNCH!!!! I will still encourage anybody trying to study abroad to try no matter what but for everything those guys give free there is always something that they collect back and yes getting a job there while you school is not easy and even when you get one, men it will not be rosy(at least for a while).
schooling abroad has to do with a lot of research and planning and balancing the pros and cons b4 planning.God go help us after all our parents had this chance and most of them either flunked it or went there, came back and did nothing, why u think say Naija dey as e dey.we have a very HUGE TASK of transforming this country but no wahala!!we go do am,after all if we could not do it God would have delayed our coming to earth.
My understanding is that tuition would be introduced in Sweden in order to close the disparity with other EU countries that require students to pay tuition. However, the tuition is not expected to be as high as that of the UK and the effective date when tuition would be introuduced is not made public yet (maybe not set yet) .
