Job Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Overall Purpose of the job
Oversee the daily operations of the AVU global content delivery network to ensure their smooth operation, participate in technical development of the network including research, planning, design and new product development, and offer support to AVU Learning Centers, content providers and other technical staff.
Responsibilities
Assist in installation, maintenance, service and troubleshooting of telecommunications equipment and systems
Supporting new and existing enterprise-wide voice, data, and video telecommunications systems;
Participate in planning, design, implementation and integration of new and planned telecommunication systems;
Provide technical support, help desk and training in telecommunication systems to AVU Partner Institutions (PI);
Interface with network providers to monitor and evaluate network performance.
Conduct site visits and evaluations to appraise state of technology development at AVU PIs;
Assist in the development and ensure adherence to telecommunications standards and policies across the AVU network;
Assist with hardware and software procurement and maintenance, evaluate technology vendors, ensuring adherence to AVU standards;
Establish and maintain regular contact with AVU PIs IT staff for the purpose of sharing experiences and best practices;
Remain abreast of the latest IT/ telecommunications developments in the industry;
Qualification
A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Telecommunications. A qualification in Education or Instructional Technology will be an added advantage
Three years relevant experience in the telecommunication industry;
Language proficiency: Fluency in English; The ability to speak/read/write in French will be an added advantage
Excellent understanding and knowledge of satellite technology: current uses and practices,
Hands on experience of antenna installation, management, support and service; VSAT installation, management, maintenance and support;
Experience providing technical support for a large client base in the area of satellite telecommunication systems or related technology; Working knowledge of client server technology and general network connectivity including Wide Area Networking and maintenance issues (e.g. servers, hubs, switches, routers, Ethernet cabling, firewalls, wireless systems)
