Summary: Have collected some MKV, AVI files and want to play them on your Mac OS X El Capitan? This guide will show you how to easily play MKV/AVI on Mac El Capitan without any hassles. Learn the details. AVI and MKV are the two common video files that we can easily access in ordinal. But for Mac users, it's always not so easy to view AVI/MKV files on Mac especially when you have upgraded to the latest OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Luckily, here are some simple solutions that will allow you to play AVI/MKV on Mac El Capitan, ensuring video quality and efficiency. As we know, QuickTime is the default media player for Mac. You always play your media files with it. However, QuickTime can’t play AVI videos? As a container format, AVI is not a specific type of file and there is no single codec for videos with .avi extensions. This is the reason why you can't play all AVI movies correctly with QuickTime on Mac. And for MKV format, it’s impossible to play MKV on Mac with QuickTime player directly as MKV is not a compatible format for QuickTime. Luckily, here are some simple solutions that will allow you to watch AVI/MKV in Mac OS X El Capitan. Solution 1. Install MKV/AVI player for Mac With a versatile video player installed in your Mac, you can play any video without format limitation concerns on Mac. The most famous one is VLC. It is excellent and free multimedia players for Mac users. Tips: If you don't want to install too many players on your Mac and want to watch MKV/AVI videos with iTunes or QuickTime player, you can take a Mac video converter to convert your MKV files to Mac compatible format. So, we go to the second solution- convert MKV/AVI to Mac format. Solution 2. Play MKV/AVI on Mac with QuickTime by converting MKV/AVI format Since MKV, AVI format is not supported well by QuickTime, converting MKV/AVI to MOV will surely be your best choice. In this case, a versatile video converter is in need. Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac is such an excellent program that combines video converter, video editor, video player. It is fully compatible with all Mac OS including El Capitan. With it, you can convert MKV, AVI, WMV, MPG, FLV, VOB, etc videos to Mac playable MOV with fast speed and high quality.
